Linux *Won't* Fail on the Desktop? [Slashdot]

Interesting opinion. The author has some good points, but he also missed some facts. The author also runs Linux Will Prevail web site so his opinions are very biased :) Good reading that makes you think, tough.

Henry David Thoreau. "If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them." [Motivational Quotes of the Day]

WMP 8 Privacy Problems

Many of you have heard of the latest Windows Media Player 8 privacy problems but only from news on the Internet. If you really want to see the original privacy advisory go here.

Of course, Microsoft had to respond to this advisory. You can get it here.

As you can see this "problem" is not as big as many news sites wanted it to be.

Microsoft Opens Source to System Integrators [BetaNews.Com]
"Microsoft today announced it would expand the scope of its Shared Source Initiative and provide approximately 150 system integrators access to the Windows source code. Microsoft's support partners servicing at least 1500 Windows clients with a Premier Support Agreement -- a list which includes Compaq and Avanade -- are eligible for the new program."

Good news!

Hi all!

I just started with this weblog thing and I'm quite excited. It looks really promising and above all, very easy to use.

I already run a web site (www.budja.com), but I don’t update it regularly. Updating static HTML pages is just not fun anymore. I’ve been preparing some ASP.NET code that would make this site more dynamic, but the site is hosted by an US hosting company and I would have to pay additional money for the database support. Since the site is hosted on a Windows 2000 Server without .NET Framework my ASP.NET wound’s run on that server anyway.

The only other viable solution would be to set my own server. I’ve been planning to do that for a long time and already have a server running. Unfortunately I only have a dial-up connection (ISDN) so 24hr online is out of the questions. I’m still waiting ADSL and/or cable to arrive here…

If you are wondering, I live in a very small country called Slovenia. That’s in Europe, of course. Our neighboring countries are Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. If you want more information about Slovenia go here.

I must warn you, not to confuse Slovenia with Slovakia or any other “S” coutry. The best way to remember Slovenia is to know that Slovenia is the only country in the world with LOVE in its name S – LOVE – NIA. See, it’s very simple. Next time you think about love, think sLOVEnia J

Anyway, I’ll use this weblog as a repository of interesting news, link, ideas and my opinions about various topics, especially about computers and related industries. I’ll also post everything I do with tech stuff. Most of the time you’ll be able to read computer related news about hardware and software, news about Microsoft and Microsoft software and of course interesting stuff about Windows XP, Windows .NET and related technologies. I must also not forget XBOX!

Two weeks ago I was buying a home cinema system for my computer room and gathered a lot of useful reviews, links and opinions about various models. I’ll share my decisions and final shopping list with you in the next few days. So stay tuned for some great information.

Even tough you can’t add any information to this weblog directly, feel free to share your ideas, suggestions, criticism or anything else you might want to say with me.

And finally, DO come again.

Thanks,

Andrej
