Now contrast that... with the Tracy Lords (as a detective) B movie that came on right after... very different... more text than subtext here... but plot seems to be missing... time to change the channel before this stuff rots my brain when I have work tomorrow?

Today's shallow moment...

Looks like a B movie with Maryam D'Abo (She was the Bond girl with a cello in "The Living Daylights"...

As far as I can tell... she would be the only reason I would watch this tv movie/mini-series (4 parts - 165 minutes) -- "Something is out there" -- a sci-fi/horror thing (She plays an extraterrestrial. Apparently those spunky extraterrestrials have English accents and bad quip/dialogue writers...)

(And now I know why it looked familiar... it's the mini-series pilot for a show (that lasted a whole 8 episodes back in 1988 (At least one source says the mini-series was so successful that it led to the failed tv series) )... she must have done it right after the Bond movie...

She's actually 4 years older than I am... didn't know that... she also, apparently, isn't afraid to do nude scenes.... or so a quick Google-ing shows...

She gets the 'cute skinny actress of the evening in a movie on cable' award... (I did say this was a shallow moment ";->" )

And the skinny part? In this movie she would have to gain quite a bit of weight to be considered skinny... either that or they filmed her in very unflattering clothes (or both)

I think this was before the whole actress/model 'waif' thing... or did that start with Twiggy?

She must be able to act... she seems to have been steadily employed over the last 20+ years in TV and movies... but the couple things I've seen her in she was your basic eye-candy-actress.

And... some trivia -- they used some special effect space ships from the original Battlestar Galactica near the end.... or so someone claimed.

Okay... she was the ship's doctor and she's hunting whatever killed the crew of her ship... I guess aliens don't have the Hypocratic oath or its equivalent... and she's stranded on Earth -- that must made it easy to do the tv series...

And sex? Apparently she's from one of those human looking alien races that doesn't do the whole physical thing... but who has no problem with taking all of her clothes off in public... except this was made for tv so we only see her from the shoulders up and her arms and legs... -- my shallow moment is very disappointed at that...

And? On top of all that... she gets high/drunk on caffeine (Poor little alien with the blonde hair can't hold her espresso)

Oh wait... part 2? Must really be the tv show version... since it starts out "Last time on..." and spends almost 10 minutes reviewing the highlights from the previous part...

Naughty, naughty-- we're supposed to think the doorman at the cop's (Joe Cortese) apartment building is watching porn on one of his video monitors instead of paying attention to the door... the parking garage in one of his other video monitors... looks like it's from "Highlander"

Ooh... Maryam in, and getting out of the shower... but wait... still a made for 80's television production (even if it was filmed partially in Australia (Maybe the Australians got a "better" version?))... shoulders, arms and legs - this time covered up by a towel...

And... now dressed in jeans... (late 80's style cuteness personified)... she's still a skinny thing...

Is that my quota of shallowness for October?

Not quite... the alien and the cop start to kiss... we see hands touching... and suddenly it's the next day (maybe) and they are both dressed and talking... was that the '80's tv version of a PG sex/subtext scene? I thought those aliens didn't do sex? At least physically... Or was it all in their heads? (I've got the sound off... so I might have missed something - I did... it WAS the hand thing... the cast/crew must have died laughing when they filmed that one...)

(I keep thinking... crossover? Her character was called "Ta'ra"... )

Having a thought... of the fic rewriting sort...

Thinking about my fic "The Two"...

  1. I first had the idea for this fic two years ago tomorrow (I looked it up... I posted a message about my new idea back on October 14th, 2003 to alt.tv.buffy-v-slayer.creative). So it's two years old... but looking at the last time I wrote anything... (it's been a year)... is it going to be another 2 years before I finish it? I hope not. I want to finish it by the end of THIS year.

  2. So what am I thinking of changing? --- What if I:

    1. Turn the fic into a crossover...? It already takes place in an alternate dimension. It could be as simple as making the villain someone from another fandom (HP? Maybe?)

    2. Or finish it and THEN rewrite it as a crossover from the beginning? Instead of retconning the crossover stuff into it?

Going to have to think about it...

The real issue is... who is the villain in the first place? I think it has to be someone whose presence would have an emotional impact on Buffy. Not necessarily evil...

The Council doesn't exist in that alternate dimension so they can't be the bad guys.... but the "impending apocalypse" has something to do with magic and the Hellmouth... and there aren't a lot of options... we know it isn't Buffy, her analog, or that dimension's Willow, Tara, Dawn, Joyce, or Lorne since we've already met them or they are already dead...

Who's left? Of the non-crossover sort...

  • Giles/Ripper
  • Ethan
  • Xander
  • Amy
  • vampires - Angel/Angelous/Darla/Spike/Drusilla/The Master
  • The Mayor
  • Riley Finn
  • Quentin Travers
  • Jonathan, Andrew, or Warren
  • etc...
Xander and Amy? They are the least likely... they should show up eventually in Sunnydale... as soon as I have a valid way to include them... I'm leaning towards Giles/Ethan... maybe.
