Many years ago, a family friend suggested I read a book on a new thing called "patterns." It was a book that looked at nature and found commonality in things that one would expect to be completely unrelated. Unfortunately, I didn't read the book (only borrowed it for a couple of months). A couple of years later I found myself not being "in the know" on patterns. While I see the value in repeatable solutions, I think some people take it to an extreem. An article on the topic in Java Developers Journal seems to feel the same.
