Obesity, a modern-day affliction, is due to all sorts of reasons. Every pundit has his favorite: fatty food, saturated fats, trans fats, sugar, soda-pop (soft drinks), lack of exercise, irregular eating habits, snacking, etc. Or, a combination of the above. According to a National Post report the British, the second most obese people, do not have a dining table in half of the households. Families rarely eat together at meal-times. IIRC, a small kitchen-table was the first major purchase of ours when the initial paycheck arrived.

It's good to see that an old article of mine on exponential growth has links and references from various places. Schools seem to be using it in their math classes. That article is now at second place in Google's ranking of the words exponential and growth.

Engineers at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio have apparently found the smoking gun in the Shuttle accident of 01.02.03 (formatted as day/month/year). Good job SwRI! I worked there many many years ago...

A previous item of mine said that moving data is getting to be more expensive than computation. Jim Gray's latest paper discusses the economics and says when grid computation will make economic sense.
