Concealment companies like The Undetectables (great name) are having to get very clever with their camouflage as the masts get smaller (esp with 3G's tiny cells) and more numerous - so the masts are disappearing completely into architecture.

Wired looks at real-world use of MapQuest et al, which are amongst the most printed websites, but provide patchy quality. We could add to the body of evidence but mentioning trips from Vienna to Slovakia and from Hell to Harrow that were at best half-successful, but there's enough already.
