Zero interest from companies in Dutch EU Presidency |
Attempts by the Dutch cabinet to get sponsorship for its presidency of the EU (starting in July 2004) have been abandoned as a complete flop. No companies showed interest, except Volvo and that attempt ended in all kinds of objections from the Netherlands ministeries. The Dutch are planning to spend 68 million Euro on the presidency, but only 2 million of that will be on cultural/media events. So, it will be a quiet presidency in terms of publicity.
Contrast this with the clever Irish, who got Audi to give the government 50 new cars for 6 months, Eircom picks up the phone bill and catering is being sponsored by Kerrygold butter and Tipperary Water.
