In separate items, Chris Sells posts about Industry Burnout and then announces Spend 24 hours with .NET, citing this as the reason:

Microsoft, in their interminable marketing wisdom, has completely undersold the rest of .NET that's not web services, at the expense of developers the world over, still stuck in the old unmanaged world.

Am I the only one that picked up on the irony? I like .NET, a lot. But if the world's most accomplished and best financed marketing machine (at least in the high tech industry) can't sell this technology, I'm really not interested in crusading on their behalf. That's not a slam on Chris. It's just that evangelism is very tiring work, and unpaid evangelism is even worse. It seems to me that I spend too much time already fighting about technology with the people who sign my paycheck.
