Alex Moffat has created a Java tool for drawing UML Sequence Diagrams. I took a quick look and it looks very cool, a lightweight tool for drawing a sequence diagram. Alex describes the genesis of this program saying
I found I was spending more time making the drawing look pretty than expressing what I wanted.
, which is exactly the problem with all the UML tools I've used. You just hope that you recoup the cost of creating the drawing by generating code, or at least through not making mistakes that a lack of planning would otherwise cause. This tool's really pretty cool: the input syntax looks a bit like Scheme, and also provides an option to export as a PNG file. What I like most about Alex's tool is that I get to type my design and watch it draw itself, instead of being chained to the mouse.
