Sony to release digital Walkman with built-in hard disk Japan Today - Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Walkman, Sony Corp said Thursday it will launch a challenge to Apple Computer Inc's market-leading iPod by releasing a digital Walkman with a built-in hard disk. Containing a 20-gigabyte hard disk, the NW-HD1 is capable of storing up to 1,300 songs.
It can store songs equivalent to up to 900 compact discs and run up to 30 hours on its battery. It can be hooked up to a personal computer to download music and weighs about 110 grams. Priced at 53,000 yen, it will go on sale July 10. (Kyodo News)
