A European marketing agency says 2003 was the year of the blog and that
in 2004 corporations will be using blogs to sell, sell, sell via "buzz
marketing." It's part of the company's
forecast for the coming year, including buzz words like "people power"
and "the New Normal." Its research involves "a global panel of
colleagues in 75 countries who report in regularly on local trends and
information," and who in turn might take that blog-marketing prediction
and try to make it come true.
The same outfit predicts "further
politicization of the Internet," including blogging crossovers like "Google bombing" the president or his opponents --
using blog networks to repeatedly link phrases like "miserable failure"
to particular sites, such as George W. Bush's biography at
WhiteHouse.gov, boosting the Google connection between that phrase and
that site. The example in question has been building for months, as this blogger's October declaration indicates.
