A little more University of Tennessee journalism news to start the school year: WUOT
91.9 FM, has brought home the Tennessee Associated Press Broadcaster's
First Place Overall Excellence Award for 2005.
The NPR-affiliate station also received first place awards for
"Breaking News," "Talk Show/Public Affairs," "News Excellence/Writing"
and "Enterprise," as well as an honorable mention in the
category of "Sound Excellence."
The university says it's the second year in a row that WUOT has won
more AP awards than any radio station in the state, quite impressive
for a station that started its regional news coverage less than three
years ago.
For more information about the AP awards and other prizes the station
has won, and pictures of the News Director Matt Shafer Powell and
reporters Ann Lloyd and Chrissy Keuper, see the UT press release.
See the WUOT website for links to the award-winning stories and more -- including the station's streaming-audio feed.
What next? WUOT plans to launch a podcast with its recent documentary "Oak Ridge - In the Shadow of the Atom." Stay tuned to 91.9 or the WUOT home page for more news about that.
