Hmm. I just noticed that this blog is being watched by another journalism class across the pond... I probably should start using more "...our" endings on words like "colour" and move those commas outside the quotation marks to make the visitors feel at home... but that might confuse my own students.
This week I suggest they read Jim Stovall's updated essay on writing effective story summaries for news sites, and watch for evidence of pre-election citizen journalism at http://knoxviews.com. Meanwhile, I'll blog sparsely for the rest of the month while trying to catch up on the end-of-semester grading.
I mentioned some local sites to the students at at the University of Central Lancashire. I'd also suggest they see what's new at the Naples News and Lawrence.com, then visit Jay Rosen, Romenesko, Lost Remote and OJR -- including this recent item about online journalism jobs, with plenty of thoughtful comments at the end.
