Bob Stepno's Other Journalism Weblog
Explorations of personal and community journalism... Traditional, Alternative, Online... The new TAO of newspapers?
I've been a regular listener to On The Media over WUOT in Knoxille and subscribed to its podcast from WNYC for a while... but I just noticed that its website also offers the HTML code to publish my own audio player for any program episode I like... Unlike the original podcast of the full program, these audio clips are individual stories -- better for listening in class or when you're in a hurry.
I'm going to start my own favorites list in the off-the-calendar "stories" section of this site, dig back into the archives and add to it as the new school year approaches. The onthemedia.org home page has other virtues: You can play stories, discuss them in a bloglike comments area, tag them as del.icio.us bookmarks, download MP3s, copy a link code to your own pages, or browse by date or by topics.
Tip: If you "allow pop-up windows" for
this page in your browser, clicking on the "More" in the corner of the player will take you to the full NPR page for the
item.
One thing I'll add to my list page is a summary for each program, to supplement the possibly cryptic
titles embedded in the players. For instance, my first one is this weekend's 25th
anniversary discussion of Blade
Runner. The second is from the April archives, about the belated publication of Mark Twain's defense of obscenity charges against Walt
Whitman.
