Not only won't information on the Web go away, it's also hard to escape news stories about people discovering that information on the Web won't go away.
Latest example, from The New York Times:
How Sticky is Membership on Facebook? Just Try Breaking Free
"Are you a member of Facebook.com? You may have a lifetime contract.
Some users have discovered that it is nearly impossible to remove
themselves entirely from Facebook, setting off a fresh round of concern
over the popular social network's use of personal data..."

For earlier stories, see my bookmarks on Facebook or privacy or both. Hmm. Not as many as I thought. It's hard to believe I've tagged fewer than a dozen of the 21 million sites Google finds when you search for those two keywords! Or is it 205 million? I hope I'm not losing data... I have to make a presentation on "information overload" sometime soon.
Footnote. Neil McIntosh comes closest to my own pet peeve with Facebook: There's just too much going on there... so much that I don't even do The New York Times news quiz via Facebook anymore; I go straight to the source, which has fewer distractions.
