my friend canton, a treasure trove of sounds
from an interesting drum and bass track combined with buddhist monks to an italian postcard-record of a girl eating a twinkie.

addendum
more and more impressed with 360degrees. puts together facts in interesting format, and tells peoples stories. has running tally of how much money has been spend on the u.s. justice system this year (tally at the moment i visited was around 105,000,000,000--i like how they write the number out, makes it more real than saying 105 billion)

other facts that people should know, that more than 4 million people can't vote because of their records. we've essentially taken away a basic citizen's rights from people, even though they have served their time. given the classism and racism that is embedded in the justice system, this has profound, disturbing implications for this so-called democracy.

360degrees
i'm working on creating a library of radio documentaries to listen to and to share with students. i've been listening to 360degrees, associated with radiodiaries (mentioned earlier). layers life in prison with the person's diary, powerful. i think their mission is important given the u.s. increasing prison industry. really fucked up. we need to hear the voices of the people who are being marginalized and silenced.

Over the past year, we have been collecting the stories of inmates, correctional officers, lawyers, judges, parole officers, parents, victims, and others whose lives have been affected by the criminal justice system.
