Like most sequels, it's worse than the original
That's what the ACLU is saying about Patriot Act II, which was secretly being prepared by the Justice Department. The Domestic Security Enhancement Act, its official name, would extend the powers of the first Patriot Act.

Patriot Act II, if introduced into Congress and passed, would:
  • further block access to names of detainees and others arrested by the FBI and the justice department;
  • increase data mining, including collecting DNA samples of people accused (and arrested);
  • restrict information about chemical plants which has health and public interest implications;
  • and deport American citizens and render them stateless if found to support groups the government deems terrorist.

Guantánamo Bay?
Whatever happened to Guantánamo Bay prisoners? We are holding how many people, that the u.s. say aren't prisoners of war, no charges, just held indefinitely, perpetual limbo in last I heard, sub-standard conditions? Why don't I hear about these people in the news?

go with what you do know, and figure out the rest later
my latest mantra is "go with what you do know, and figure out the rest later." that's been an essential component to my writing process. putting together a half-hour radio show with several different voices and complex ideas is no easy task--not to mention the pressure associated with putting together a piece that's a special for the 4th of july. and sometimes i freak out in my head, 'i can't do this, ahhh, it's too much, ahhhhhhh! what if it doesn't come together, what if it sucks, ahhhhh." and then i tell myself my mantra. no worries about the end product, just do what i do know, and peck away little by little on the hard parts, reward yourself with a fun part, and soon, after many torturous hours and days you have a show!

well, i imagine this mantra is useful in other arenas, too.
