EPA: 'Warming is real' [USA Today : Front Page]

For the first time, the administration puts most of the blame for recent warming on human activity, pointing to the burning of fossil fuel that releases carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere, according to the report released by the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Bush administration is blaming the burning of fossil fuel. Dear God, it must be worse than I thought. But, here's the kicker:

The Bush administration ... suggests nothing to deal with heat-trapping "greenhouse" pollution beyond voluntary action by industry.

That should work like a dream. We know how upstanding and forthright most corporations are.

Press release: MSNBC Launches Weblogs. Pros-with-blogs.  [Scripting News]

From the press release: "As our Weblogs evolve, count on MSNBC.com to become a resource center and a platform from which bloggers can connect with one another and with the ideas that shape our world." - Joan Connell, executive producer for Opinions and Communities on MSNBC.com.

I read that to mean MSNBC intends to provide weblogs for the public. If that's the case, then why do I feel uneasy about Microsoft providing a weblog platform?

Judge: Sonicblue needn't monitor viewing. A district judge overturns a late April ruling that required the maker of ReplayTV set-top box technology to write and install software to monitor what its customers were watching. [CNET News.com]

Sonicblue CEO Ken Potashner: "If the networks and studios focused on the inevitable evolution of their business instead of attempts to stifle technology, we believe everyone involved would benefit, consumers most of all."

Amen, but I don't believe they have the imagination to evolve.
