David Chappel -> Guido Casper -> Sam Ruby: on asynchronous web services. The first version of Groove Edge Services was asynchronous. It was easier for us to implement because of the way Groove works. We have reliable messaging and our relay servers just queue messages up for an endpoint. Internally our API is asynchronous; you send a message, and your receive a message, sometimes from yourself. Our current Edge Services API is RPC style because we thought that it would be much easier to program. The async model is way harder for remote clients. The cool thing is that we will leave the async version there too, so I'll be interested to see if people use that to their advantage.
