Countries will not exempt US military from prosecution
Petty and vindictive Bush keeps messing up our foreign policy and standing in international relations. Just when you thought these bozos couldn't screw it any worst:
(Reuters) The US on Tuesday suspended military assistance to nearly 50 countries, including Colombia and six nations seeking NATO membership, because they have supported the International Criminal Court and failed to exempt Americans from possible prosecution.
As the deadline passed for governments to sign exemption agreements or face the suspension of military aid, President Bush issued waivers for 22 countries.
But the 22 countries did not include Colombia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia.(...)
Get a hold of this: The Bush administration is punishing countries for not bending international regulations and agreements for us. If they don't exempt us from what applies to the rest of the world, then they are not our friends anymore.
The countries which received presidential waivers are:
Albania, Afghanistan, Bolivia, Bosnia, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, East Timor, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Honduras, Macedonia, Mauritius, Mongolia, Nigeria, Panama, Romania, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan and Uganda.
So, if you're a country run by warlords or a brutal dictator, there's a good chance you get to keep your US military aid. However, if you're a democracy and support international law, you're on the Bush Shit List.
