Some weeks ago I was very disappointed about my powerbook as it didn't work as I thought it should. But let's start at the beginning of the story:
Before my vacation I bougth this nice little DV Cam from Sony (TRV-80) and used it a little bit during my walks through the Alps and filmed a little bit. When I arrived at home again I connected the cam with the supplied USB cable with my powerbook at thought iMovie would automatically popup and I could simply transfer the movies. WRONG. Nothing happened and the cam wasn't recognized at all :(
So I started to read the manual :) and found out that using a Mac, the USB cable doesn't work. Great! So, I started to install the tons of different programms and drivers for my windows PC and well after hours it worked somehow. But the supplied software really sucks.
And then I saw Stefano on the GT using his Sony Cam and a Powerbook and asked him, if it worked for him and he said: "Sure". As he (and Pier) found out that I tried the USB cable, they both said: "No, you have to use the FireWire one.". And in the end this was a great help!
So, back at home, I searched for the FireWire cable - but it's (of course, we all know Sony, don't we) not shipped with the cam - and of course you have to know that Sony calls FireWire iLink...so I bought this week a very simple looking but expensive cable and..tata...it simply works. I can now control my cam using iMovie etc. Great, thanks Stefano and Pier for the info!
Ok, iMovie crashed ones during the import, but who cares about that - and I guess this has been fixed with Panther - only 12 hours to go...
