Breed discrimination: a reader responds to a previous article which portrayed rottweilers in a bad light:

I need to comment on the negative talk of Rottweillers and pitbulls. I have owned 15 Rotties and one pitbull over the last several years and have found them to be wonderful pets. My dogs have never bit or growled at anyone because I didn't raise them that way. They were raised in a loving enviroment with plenty of obedience training and were never allowed to be around small children by themselves because they might jump or scratch a child.

Although my daughter was allowed to play with them whenever she wanted. She is 20 yrs. old now and thinks Rotties are the BEST breed. My pitbull did not come from a fighting dog background and I would never have one that did. My Rottie now came from an excellent breeder and she is a wonderful pet. She is allowed in the house and goes boating, camping visting with us all the time. The reason Rotties and Pits have such a bad name is because the media jumps on stories about them, but  thousands of OTHER breeds bite and those news stories are not reported!

Any responsible adult should monitor their pet around strangers and children. I was bit as a small child by a little mixed breed dog but it never changed my mind about my LOVE FOR DOGS!! Thank you for letting me voice my story. Always a pet lover and lover of Rottweillers and pitbulls -- Mauri
