While our dog recovers from his
knee injury, we take him on car rides as a replacement for his daily walks. Chows love to go for
car rides and he is no exception; once he gets his seat belt on, he's ready to roll; he leans on the car door and looks out at the scenery to see if he can spy anything or anyone interesting. In order not to disappoint him, we drive along
Sligo Creek Parkway or
Rock Creek Parkway, which winds through three states (DC, VA, MD). At dawn and dusk, rabbits line the grassy banks just outside the trees and deer graze on the grass. He trills in excitement (he doesn't bark; he trills like a bird). There are stables nearby too, so we take him there and he cries in soft trills at the horses and their riders, who don't know what to make of a dog who sings like a bird. After our evening ride with our doggie, we stopped at a grocery store and got him a Frosty Paw (doggie ice-cream). It was the perfect way to end a perfect ride.
