So much, once again, for plug and play. I spent approximately four hours yesterday getting my wireless mouse and keyboard set up, which was tremendously complicated by the fact, that following installation instructions, I removed the old keyboard and mouse, and had to keep reinstalling the old to get the drivers I needed for the new. But now I am wireless. And as soon as I get my couch cleared off enough for humans as well as cats, I'll be able to live my fantasy of keyboarding from across the room.
I went to the ball game last night, my first this season, and did the obligatory punishment of body through consumption of rice-based cheap domestic beer and nachos and sausages. Today, I had lunch with Jim and Theresa of Markwort, former Acumen clients. Theresa said she almost didn't recognize me, so relaxed and flowing did I look. That's good to hear. I feel relaxed and flowing. Vito's is open again, which will make it tricky to get back on low-carb. This morning, I carried little Henry around the Kirkwood farmer's market. Babies are chic magnets. Baby cuteness is enhanced by being carried by a male, and male cuteness is enhanced by carrying a baby. Once all the little ones in my life can support themselves, I'll have to build a little saddle or platform on Loki's back. That would be a chic electromagnet, worthy of a science fair project.
Yesterday's presentation of the Long Range Planning committee findings at the Campus Y went well. I'll be getting together with David Obedin soon to hopefully explain to him that he and Donna aren't oil and water, but that Donna just isn't personally or organizationally suited to do the job. She's so focused on CYA that she just isn't capable of moving forward in a direction. And it doesn't help that the board hasn't provided any direction. I want to start the retreat with the question of whether or not we still have a valid mission, or if we simply exist today to exist. The tricky thing is that we probably won't be able to find anyone better suited to the job, for the salary we offer. I surely wouldn't do it, unless I were married to someone with a really good income.
The restaurant was slow tonight. I was afraid I might only do around a dozen covers. It was disconcerting that one of my call tables, Gary and Nancy, who specifically requested me when Nancy made reservations, were seated in another section. That's not good for Sqwires business. After work Wednesday, Renee and Christina came over to hang out on the deck, which became impossible once Renee looked out and saw that she could see down. If I ever run for office, legalization of marijuana will be a key issue, especially towards the end of my tenure. What wonderfully harmless fun.
