While I'm sure this has been discussed at length elsewhere by those much better informed than I, the irony of prejudice obfuscating joint disenfranchisement cuts both ways - poor whites blaming blacks, blacks blaming all whites, when the real cancer isn't the other race, but capitalism gone awry.
I was also thinking about how absolutely necessary it is to demean those whom we oppress, which speaks not to the natural barbarism of humanity, but our natural humanity. So unnatural is it to oppress fellow humans that to do so, we must first convince ourselves that a class of people are somehow less human.
I've also been thinking about how improved yoga equipment only helps in achieving greater relaxation. I almost chuckled in class the other morning, using my deluxe tapas mat, how I was going to be the best yoga student ever. The only problem with the concept of getting my own tapas mat so I wasn't sticking my face into a mat that someone else's feet were on is that I really don't want to get my new mat dirty. I found myself picking my own strands of hair off, and lint grabbed from my shorts, whenever we changed poses.
