Once upon a time, my elevator speech consisted of something like "Helping to see the forest for the trees." But I never felt entirely comfortable with it; which is more important, the forest, or the trees?
Today, Tom Peters, once again, hits the nail with his head:
Everything That's Not Important. . . We often "miss the forest for the trees." Nice saying, but it too misses the boat, damn it. My point here is damned profound. We count spines and create a rowing chronology and miss ... The Whole Damn Point. . .
All I ask is: Think about it ... Every Damn Day. "Forests" and "Trees," sure[~]but the essence of life, professional and personal, is more like it.
[The Tom Peters Weblog] Read Tom's entire post, especially the long Steinbeck quotation.
So now, in honor of this revelation, I have updated the tag line for this blog; from now on, it's: "What forest? What trees?" Which is not to say that neither is important, just that there's more, much more.
