Keeping the Greensboro urban loop green is a good thing. Too bad more than half the road will run through Guilford County, which makes its own rules and is less interested in a billboard-free scenic route.

Still, I'm not unsympathetic to property-owner Pat Short, who had the best line of last night's meeting, according to the N&R. Said Short of his land: "It was scenic before the county ran an eight-lane highway through it.”

Job update: I'm still a ZD guy.

I went to New York a couple of weeks ago not knowing what I would do. I strongly considered just taking a year to write and think about stuff I wanted to write and think about. I talked to smart friends about the business of blogging.

And I had this conversation with my wife while we were walking the dog one morning:

Me: I might just take the next year off to write and think.

Lisa: These shoes make my feet sweat.

Me: It would be a big change, we'd have to think about health insurance for the kids...

Lisa: I should wear socks with these shoes.

So at least she was on board.

There were also other opportunities out there in magazine land.

But then I went to Ziff, and the people I met with at CIO Insight were outstanding, and that sealed the deal. Covering business and tech strategy is one of my specialties, which made the job attractive, but working with good people is critical. Head honcho Ellen Pearlman is one of the best. I knew editor Ed Baker from our time together at Forbes, and Brad Wieners is another Wired veteran. So as of June 1 I'm a senior writer at CIOI.
