•••Episcopal Bishop Gay, But Many Episcopalians Not Happy At All

So the die is cast now for the Episcopal Church U.S.A. -- who voted consent for the ordination of Gene Robinson as Bishop of New Hampshire. There's been quite a media flurry, of course. Robinson hopes to help hold the American denomination's 2.3 million members together. Whether the rest of world Anglicanism -- from Africa to Asia and beyond -- will still remain in fellowship, time will tell.

President Kieschnick of the LCMS did issue a statement today, describing himself as "profoundly saddened and deeply disturbed" at the turn of events.

My take on this?

Honestly, why bother getting this upset about allowing a gay bishop -- when for the last 5 decades or more they've been ordaining men and women who openly embrace historical criticism, deny creation, the Biblical miracles, and indeed the divinity of Jesus himself along with his miraculous conception, incarnation and bodily resurrection. None of that Biblical teaching did they require people to actually believe, teach and confess. It seems odd to me that *this* one point of doctrine should be the last straw.

Or is it true that the people in the Episcopal pews really didn't notice or care until JUST NOW, with this one issue, that their church had long ago surrendered the Bible as the real foundation for their faith and theology? Yet surely our LCMS has troubles of it's own, deciding whether or not we're still going to worship Christ alone. Regardless, it's another sign of the turbulent theological times we live in today.

I think World Christianity truly is facing a crisis unparalleled since the time of the Reformation.
