•••Arab News on Episcopal Crisis

"So we learn an important lesson on the respect Westerners have for religion and how they deal with any religion that does not conform to their "liberal" ideology. After all, does that non-Westerner Jesus (peace be upon him) know more about Christianity than an American or British bishop?

If this is how they deal with their own religion, think what they will try (are already trying) to do with other religions such as Islam." [from Amr Mohammed Al-Faisal's article "Lead Us Not...!" in Arab News]

Here's an interesting insight: The European author of The Guardian article below sees America as too religious -- Americans have not yet cast off enough of their spiritual heritage, and are rigid and foolhardy. The Arab world, along with the Africans, Latin Americans, and Asians -- are of the opinion that the problem with American religiosity is its utter lack of integrity and the very willingness of American churches to throw off centuries of worldwide Christian teaching in order to "improve" holy things.

Al-Faisal is not being paranoid. The pursuit of happiness is become the pursuit of personal pleasure, and traditional religion has tended to be a stumbling block to selfish pleasure-seeking. I'm quite sure that the only kind of Islam that Americans will celebrate and rejoice in is an Islam that eventually embraces and incorporates a baby-boomer style sexual revolution. America seems to have a way of making most anything into a hollow, plastic and cheap imitation of itself.
