Rebecca's Pocket has an interesting post from a reader employed by the U.S. Military. These are important words in my opinion.
I believe it's important that we hear from Veterans of the Gulf War as well.
In my experience, many people who support an invasion and reconstruction of Iraq don't know a soul who served in the Gulf War. I was 19 at the time and had one good friend in the Marines (he was not sent overseas.) I did have a few casual friends who were sent overseas and they did see some action. In my career since then, I have met a few more who served in the Persian Gulf.
In the early 90's, I also remember looking in the newspaper and seeing my year of birth listed as the the first group to be drafted should it be necessary. The US was preparing for a much longer war back then. Another press report at the time stated that the Pentagon had ordered 60,000 body bags. It got me thinking about my life very seriously.
I do not support military action at this stage in the crisis.
