Enough. Time to Get Serious
Young people have had it. We are the ones paying for everything in sweat, blood and money. There is only one solution. Reform at the highest level of government. - GMS

split second sound
Sounds of Star Death Near Middle C. Scientists have made the astonishing discovery that sound might drive supernovae explosions. Their computer simulations say that dying stars pulse at audible frequencies -- for instance, at about the F-note above middle C -- for a split second before they blow up. [Physics Org]

Gabe in China Podcast - Huashan
Huashan. We climbed Huashan, one of China's five sacred mountains (sacred to Daoism). We began at midnight and climbed in the dark and arrived at the summit at about 5:40. We waited about an hour in the cold until we saw the first glimmer of sun. By gabrielwildau(at)gmail.com. [Gabe in China]

Perspectives of Russian Art
Perspectives of Russian Art. Perspectives of Russian Art Prior to the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 Americans had limited opportunities to view Russian art of the 20th century. The political pressures of the Cold War era resulted in the mutual cultural isolation of Russia from western Europe and the United States that also created an atmosphere of aesthetic mystery regarding Russian art . . Interview with a Vampire.

John Galliano decided that blood, skeletons, whips and chains are long overdo in the world of haute couture. His collection for Dior was dramatic, magical and bordered on scary/sexy. The Dior show opened 3 days of haute couture fashion here in Paris. The models looked as if they were apparitions straight out of a surrealistic French Revolution. Their hair was bleached white, dark rims painted around their eyes and the color red was absolutely EVERYWHERE.

My favorite piece (and a crowd pleaser) was an ecru dress with a huge tulle skirt with the slogan prominently displayed: “liberte, egalite and fraternite.”

Security was ultra tight for this show, but being a student has its privleges. I will be catching the Dominique Sirop show later today and the Franck Sorbier show on Wednesday. The season has started.

A picture named schrat.jpgOh. Thank you, Scot. But please tell your students I won't answer any questions about blogging; I don't know myself what this is all about. [The Cartoonist]
