The contingent of snowboarding's brightest will include luminaries such as Antti Autti, Andreas Wiig and Tara Dakides and has to be considered the most important professional snowboarding competition on the West Coast this season with nearly every big name in the sport in attendance and a total prize purse of more than $200,000. The Vans Cup at Tahoe will air on Fox Sports Net in two parts at 3 pm April 28 and May 5 with re-broadcasts on May 12 and May 19. The weekend kicks off Friday night with Wyatt Caldwell, last year's big winner with titles in both Rail and Slopestyle, taking on all comers under the lights in a Rail jam session. Action continues Saturday with the Slopestyle comp and caps off on Sunday with Superpipe. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sure to draw a huge crowd to Northstar-at-Tahoe. Papierdoll, NYC Fall Fashion Week: Sofada NYC Fall Fashion Week: Sofada. "Sofada" is derived from the Portuguese word for "naughty." And while this namesake captures Alice Dobson's concept, perhaps a term for "when naughty meets nice" would be more fitting. Dobson's designs are flirtatious, but with a sophisticated, ladylike approach. It's no wonder she cites 1940s pinup girls as inspiration. Dobson captures the pinup style expertly: outfits for proper, well-groomed women who have a sex kitten purring within them. Sensuality and naughtiness, in the form of tulle and ruffles, peak out from the bust and hemlines of slim, fitted silhouettes that flair just enough to be playful. Her success lies within her restraint - recognizing that sophisticated sensuality is about understatement, she employs the use of ribbons and frills sparingly, but effectively. Dobson even gives brocade a youthful exuberance. The styling further underlined Dobson's concept, as the models strutted down the runway with hair loosely pinned to their heads, curls falling along their shoulders. This was a fantastic debut, and the confidence and self assurance that exude from Dobson's designs indicate her inner determination to be a fixture on the runway scene. - Ali [] 10:25:14 AM
