World Baseball Classic World Baseball Classic. Team USA plays its first game in the World Baseball Classic at Chase field in Phoenix today. The 16 nation tournament has been designed by Major League Baseball to promote the game internationally, and lots of the game's biggest names are here in town. Many of the players who compete in the big leagues in the US during the regular season are playing for their native countries in the classic, which could level the playing field, and make for more competitive games. Sam Nation Sam Nation of Cincinnati Band The Thirteens Killed in Car Crash. From our message board: Sunday morning, Sam Nation ( Shipman ) of The Thirteens was killed in a car crash. He and Melissa Fairmount (Of Fairmount Girls and The Thirteens) were driving home from the Comet, when a car ran a red light, and crashed into him. The driver had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit and was driving without a license. Melissa and the other driver escaped unharmed, but Sam was killed upon impact. This is not only a huge loss for The Thirteens and Melissa, but for the arts community as well. Sam was a truly inspirational person and is going to be terribly missed. Read more here and here. ShyFX Essential Mix 11-12-2005 ShyFX Essential Mix 11-12-2005 - Download This Mix. ShyFX doesn't need any introduction to any true jungle heads, but if you're unfamiliar with him he's one of the biggest names in the business. He was part of the early days of jungle in the early 90's, and his classic track 'Original Nuttah' is possibly the biggest ragga jungle anthem ever. On 11-12-2005 he was featured on the famous Radio One Essential Mix show hosted by Pete Tong. I don't live in the UK so needless to say I'm a little late hearing the mix, but it's available for free off of ShyFX's label site, Digital Sound Boy. Unfortunately I can't link you directly to the file, but head to the 'Downloads' section and it's the 3rd mix down on the list. So why feature this mix? Well, it's seriously the best jungle mix I've heard this year. It's got soul (literally - he spins soul music), reggae, ragga, jump-up, and yes - a few of the usual drum'n'bass tracks that every other DJ spins. It's been too long since I've heard a mix with this type of energy. One track, 'Deep' by TC (Dubplate - 37:00 into the mix) is a serious new-school jump-up anthem that almost made me jump out of my chair when I first heard it! When I got into jungle in the mid 90's this, along with the minimal darkstep sound, was what drew me in. Lately that sound has taken a backseat to the more aggressive sounding tracks, so it's good to hear this type of sound again. [Grooveeffect] 7:15:41 PM
