A Punk Legend Returns (Part 3)
A
Punk Legend Returns. Franz Bielmeier, also known as Mary Lou
Monroe, was the founding member of Düsseldorf's great punk band
Charley's Girls, who then evolved into Mittagspause. Remember the Ratinger Hof? Later, he set up the famous
Rondo record label
and wrote and recorded beautiful songs for his new band, Aqua Velva.
After some private trouble he vanished, only to resurface again for the
interviews published in Jürgen Teipel's book about the history of
German punk rock, Verschwende deine Jugend; then he
disappeared again.
And now he's
back.
Franz has started recording again, and it's FAB. He gave permission to
publish four of his new songs exclusively right here at The Cartoonist.
With the exception of Dub, all those songs are part
of his Schwester Strahl (Sister Ray) project.
Be prepared for some fabulous
noise:
Baby
Yo [MP3, 2.7MB]Ente + Sally [MP3,
4.3MB] Dub [MP3, 3.7MB] Unfall [MP3,
8.4MB]
Franz
Bielmeier is now looking for a record label. Any ideas are welcome, so
please leave a comment.
And here are the
lyrics:
Höre.
Staune. Gute Laune. Enjoy. [The
Cartoonist]

Click For Donewaiting.com - Tha Flaming Lips
The Flaming Lips New Video, on Letterman. The
Flaming Lips remind me of Tim Burton. Not because they both do some
weird stuff, but because both The Flaming Lips and Burton have managed
to have really successful careers working inside the major label (and
major studio) world without giving up any of their artistic vision or
integrity. All of Burton's films have been major studio releases,
believe it or not, as has the last few Lips records. It's good to see
some people can make it work to their advantage.
Anyway, you can stream the entire new album on their website. I love it, but you knew that already.
Here's two videos. First from their Letterman appearance the other
night and the second is the splendidly twisted video for the "Yeah Yeah
Yeah" Song. [donewaiting.com :: music commentary]

Dave Winer Steals a Motto
One of my many mottos
of the past is "Only steal from the best." When you use someone else's
idea that's the ultimate sign of respect. But it's important to say who
you're stealing from, because they're the best, right? [Scripting News]
