Ansel Adams: Modern by Nature.
Inspired by environmental activism and his diehard involvement with the Sierra Club, Ansel Adams embarked upon a photographic exploration that catapulted him into a successful 60 year career. Ethically, he is motivated to capture the beauty and unrefined power of nature, scenery, and structural anomalies that vary in location, dimension, and magnitude in an effort to preserve their innate exquisiteness. His affinity for the Yosemite National Park, cloud silhouettes, meadows, and other phenomenal natural landscapes put his concise work on the map for decades to come. At the crux of his career, his work was exhibited in New York at the Alfred Steiglitz Gallery in 1936.
The work that will be featured at the Phoenix Art Museum from November 11th-February 4, 2007 is taken directly from his multifaceted archive [The Ansel Adams Archive at the Center of Creative Photography]. The exhibition is located on the second level of the new wing.
