Criminal Lawyer 101:"Get Your Money Up Front" -- Applies to All Clients . . . Even Presidents
"Bill and Hillary Clinton have become fabulously wealthy since leaving the White House, but they're still stiffing their lawyers, the Daily News has learned." [The Daily News]
It is somehow funny that no matter how well represented a defendant may be, the product never seems worth the price once the danger has passed. This is not to endorse the huge fees billed by attorneys for the Clintons, but the "get your money up front" rule was written to deal with clients who after getting the benefit of good lawyering (perhaps questionable in the Clintons' case) decide the financial price was too great after all and, therefore, not worthy of paying. Unfortunately, there is no way to repossess a good defense or a good result.
