<RANT>So here's how SBC works just in case you ever have to transfer your DSL service. . .if you don't get a new phone number, they have to first cancel the old service. . .this takes 3-5 business days. . .and it sounds like it's a manual process because the new order can't even be placed into the system until the old one drops out. . .so every day when Bob or Diana or whoever come to work, I'm guessing they have to check all their old orders to see if it's dropped out yet. . .I'm not sure if I could come up with a more inefficent process if I tried. . .

Then once that happens, the rep puts in the new order. . .this order then works it's way through the seemingly arcane system and takes from 10-14 days. . .so for me, a current customer who is paying lots of money every single month for my DSL service, the shortest possible time that I can be without DSL service is 13 days. . .while a new customer, with no proven track record, gets a deal for $34.95 a month for a year and gets set up in around 3-5 days. . .am I the only one who thinks this is a big pile of crap?

Why can't the telecommunications industry get any better at customer service? And I'm not talking about the individual reps, the man I spoke to was extremely helpful and conciliatory that I hadn't been given all this information. . .but what I am talking about is the general disdain that telecommunications companies seem to have towards the very people who pay them every month. . .and this goes to SBC, Sprint, ATT and every other one that I've ever had to deal with. . .no wonder they are in a slump. . .and I don't get my DSL back until Friday of next week at the very earliest. . .words don't convey my disdain. . .</RANT>

While I'm for the liberation of Iraq, I'm not blind to the obvious dishonesty of some players in our current administration. . .This article has some good points to that effect. . .

Surfing the web while on dial up is maddeningly frustrating. . .so frustrating that I cannot handle it and can only hope my DSL will soon be restored and my posting can return to some semblance of the level it was before. . .in the same way I cannot fathom living without a cell phone, I'm equally flabbergasted as to how I lived sans high-speed internet. . .off to call SBC and see what they have to say. . .
