You would think science might be outside the realm of politics but you'd be wrong. . .Bush probably does play fast with the facts when dealing with the environment. . .seems like a Democratic candidate could run with something like this. . .

People who hate Bush always used the "It's all about oil" play as their main argument for against invading Iraq. . .which seems to be a way to be against the invasion without actually having to think for yourself. . .I always thought that oil did have a great deal to do with it but that it wasn't anywhere near the most deciding factor. . .

however, now that major combat is over and we're beginning to try to solve contracts are being given out to rebuild Iraq's oil industry. . .given that Cheney used to be head of Halliburton and articles like this it's hard for a cynic like me to not wonder how much oil really had to do with it. . .though I would still argue both from a humanitarian angle (Saddam was a murdering bastard though this isn't enough reason to invade--see Liberia) and from a strategic angle (the Middle East is a hotbed of terrorist activity and the Saudis are at the heart of it--building a new Iraq could greatly help our cause there), the war was worth it. . .
