There are probably 50 reasons why I would never live in Europe not the least of which are the weather, the collectivist mindset, the weather, the high rate of taxation, the high rate of unemployment, the weather and oh yeah, did I mention the weather? But one of the biggest reasons is the evident elitism seen throughout the governmental bodies of Europe. This elitism reared its ugly head most recently in this article concerning a law the citizens of Britain would like to see implemented. When it became apparent that the populace at large wanted the right to protect themselves, the governing elites were horrified and made noises to the effect that the people just couldn't be trusted to govern themselves. It's hard to believe that the people of Europe haven't taken all their political governors and shot them. But then, you'd have to have a gun for that. |

I just wrapped up my taxes for the year. I'm getting a pretty substantial return, partly because I lost more money than I care to admit in the market last year, but mostly because of the tax cuts by Bush. I hardly ever get money back as I prefer to have my money all year instead of letting the government handle it. As far as I can tell, before the tax cuts, I would have been paying about $140 or so. Instead, I'm getting $625. This is substantial. I find it interesting that no one seems to be commenting (at least I haven't seen it) about the fact that the two Democrats who said they would repeal all the tax cuts, including those that went to the middle class, are either out of the race (Gephardt) or suddenly getting their ass kicked (Dean). I'm not sure this is coincidence. That money is going to go exactly where Bush intended for it to go, back into the economy when I buy either a new laptop or possible a washer and dryer combo (I know, I know how freaking sexy that is but it's becoming a question of need not sex.) So why aren't people smarter than me picking up on this little factoid? Beats me but I find it intriguing. |
