Racism Should Be a Public Health Issue
Article in Medscape Medical News - "Racism plays a key role in the development of illness and countering it should be considered a public health issue, says a psychiatrist in the latest issue of the British Medical Journal. ... The health effects of racism are well documented. One British study of 4,800 people finds that those who felt victimized by discrimination and forms of racism were twice as likely to develop psychotic episodes in the next three years." Request for Testimony to Improve the Quality of Treatment for Substance Use Disorders
Press release at the JoinTogether web site on The Treatment Quality Improvement Panel, which is "now accepting testimony to develop recommendations to improve the quality of treatment for substance use disorders. The testimony will be used in a report that will give clearer meaning to the concept of treatment quality, produce increased urgency to address quality issues, and propose broad community strategies for increasing treatment impact through quality improvement."
