MOVIE - OPEN RANGE - Review Rating $$$ (OUT OF 10)

STARRING - Kevin Costner (Charley Waite), Robert Duvall (Boss), Annette Bening (Sue), Abraham Benrubi (Mose), Michael Gambon (Baxter), Michael Jeter (Percy) & Diego Luna (Button).

DIRECTOR - Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves, The Postman)

Based upon the novel, "The Open Range Men", by Lauran Paine.

Open Range is so bad it almost makes you regret that Clint Eastwood revived the Western with his brilliant film "Unforgiven".

Open Range is actually a Harlequin Romance with a gun fight at the O.K. Corral. The plot amounts to the domestication of our hero, Charley Waite (Costner), who till he meets the lone single woman in town, is as untamed as the wilderness he herds cows through. This gentlemen, is a corny date movie, not an epic western.

If your significant other asks you to go see, or rent, Open Range run for the hills as fast as you can.

Open Range is one of my WORST MOVIES OF 2003

Running time - 135 minutes.

MOVIE - S.W.A.T. - Review Rating $$$$$ (OUT OF 10)

STARRING - Samuel L. Jackson (Hondo), Colin Farrell (Jim Street), Michelle Rodriguez (Chris Sanchez), James Todd Smith aka LL Cool J (Deke Kay), Josh Charles (T.J. McCabe), Brian Van Holt (Michael Boxer), Jeremy Renner (Brian Gamble) & Olivier Martinez (Alex Montel).

DIRECTOR - Clark Johnson (Feature film debut)

Based upon the 1975-1976 TV series of the same title.

S.W.A.T. isn't a bad movie its just not a good movie. As far as action pictures go the plot is semi-realistic (internal politics & breaking a major con out of jail) and they get a lot of the small details right.

Sure, there are a few good one-liners and some things get blown up, but the overall movie experience is ultimately about as intense as watching your dishes dry.

Running time - 111 minutes.
