In diesem Jahr ging der Preis an Peter Weibel, dazu gibt es eine kleine Ausstellung in der AdK am Hanseatenweg.

The Intelligent Image (by Peter Weibel) The content of my speech will be a reinterpretation of the last hundred years of cinema or the cinematic code - followed by my projection of what I imagine should be the direction for the next hundred years. The title of my lecture is Intelligent Image. Naturally, it is a paradox, as an image cannot be intelligent, but I will demonstrate how we have transformed the image machinery, as well as the content of the image, to the extent that we might ultimately see in the future a so-called intelligent image.

We are moving away from reproduction culture, we are moving away from Walter Benjamin, and we are moving into clone culture, where the ideas of originality, the ideas of identity, do not count anymore. Then we may understand finally one last sentence by Borgés. He said, Unfortunately the world is real; unfortunately I am Borgés. He said that the identity of a person is bound to reality, and when we come up with machineries which can create virtual spaces and realities, immaterial spaces, we have also to pay the price, we have also to construct virtual identities, virtual bodies -- one is linked to the other. It means the aim is to create virtual identities together with virtual images, and this together will constitute an intelligent image. This intelligent image system will be another step in the human liberation from the natural prison of space and time.
