i just received my "bowflex ultimate", which is a workout machine that i'll use to complement my already-existing personal trainer schedule. the problem with the schedule is that when you're traveling, there are so many interruptions. and i'm usually too unstructured to do it without knowing there's a trainer watching over my shoulder. the bowflex has a lot of assembly; i predict it will take about 3 hours to setup.

just finished a great book called "countdown", about a group of six talent contestants competing in the math olympiad. it's fascinating to see how they go about solving various tough math problems, as well as musing on the basis of intelligence.

i was on a scavenger hunt throughout washington d.c. yesterday. it was great fun! it's amazing to see how creative a group of people can be when they're competing and against the clock. one of my favorite memories was gathering up 6 job applications from random stores in the pentagon city mall. another was working on a timed crossword puzzle right under the einstein statue.

off to la for a gartner group conference this week, followed by some time with the webmethods division in san jose. i love calfornia, especially the weather, and hopefully they'll be a little time to sunbathe during the trip.
