G.O.P. Completes Draft of Its Bill on Industrial Security. The long-awaited proposal requires thousands of chemical sites to assess their vulnerability and their response plans to a terrorist attack. By Jennifer 8. Lee. [New York Times: Science]

Senator Corzine criticized the Republican proposal today, saying: "It's about as watered down a version of chemical plant safety as you can ever imagine. The special interests are trumping the public interest."

Security concerns, plus congressional responsivness to industry reluctance, could severaly impact the public's right to know, even including access to such landmark resources as the Toxic Release Inventory, which is still one of the most cost effective government programs ever,
