"A Hoxton school for children with severe emotional and behavioural problems was closed two weeks ago after youngsters "threatened to become out of control".

Crusoe House School in Nile Street shut on June 22 to "ensure the safety of pupils" after the Learning Trust received reports that "behaviour had deteriorated".

Although the school still has not officially re-opened, some youngsters have returned for one-on-one lessons."

"THREATENED job cuts at Hackney's award-winning Tudor mansion, Sutton House, could ruin its success in getting those least likely to visit such historic buildings through its doors.

Plans to restructure the management of east London's oldest home in Homerton High Street, as part of cost savings, will deprive people from poorer boroughs such as Hackney of the chance to enjoy the heritage and cultural activities which more affluent areas take for granted, warn campaigners opposing the cuts."

"Cllr Johnson attacked the 'chaotic' plan to build a new school at Ladywell Leisure Centre.

Councillor Helen Le Fevre, who represents single-issue party LEAP Local Education Action for Parents (LEAP) said: 'The new school proposal needs some new eyes to end this political groundhog day."

The mayor then took to his feet and launched a counter-attack on his opponents.

He accused the opposition parties of putting together a "weak argument" and described the school campaigners in the public gallery as a "rabble".

He was eventually forced to sit down after constant heckling and let deputy mayor Gavin Moore continue the defence. All the opposition parties backed the call for an independent review but the motion was defeated by the Labour councillors.

No Labour members except the Mayor and his deputy spoke at the meeting, something which attracted a barrage of criticism from the public benches.
