My blogs have these objectives outlined below. Generally blogs have a theme; for example, check librarian.net, a web-based updated log of one person's activities, thoughts, ideas, etc.). Anyway, my objectives for this weblog are:

1) test out two or possibly three pieces of software for this activity - the three software are a) Radio (this one) - this is a fee service (under $40 a year) and has a client that runs on the user's desktop and blogs are hosted by Userland, similar to what Mark used for the Independent study, b) Moveable Type, this is open source and I've downloaded it, yet to configure.

2) understand whether something like scoop or slashdot (which also we have installed) are better for both my purposes and AZ ASIST virtual community building efforts. I discarded Blogger and others that are pure subscription services.

3) share a daily log of my learning & efforts in this area.

4) provide and experiment via the IT News link on the navigation pane with blogs as a way of keeping the Advising FAQ and IT Skills for SIRLS Graduates web documents constantly and easily updated for my students and advisees; one thing that may be useful to students and advisees is that they could subscribe to my blog and get updated by email notification too.

Welcome! I've finally, finally decided to test Radio and Moveable Type for myself. Blogging came to my consciousness sometime last year when I was poking into Information Architecture and Scholarly Communication. In Spring semester, Mark Kelly, did an Independent study where he used weblogs for course management, but I didn't really install the software or play with it too much. So, here goes!
