Got my print copy of TIME Magazine this morning (October 14 issue, takes time to percolate out to the Ionian islands, and onto Sakis the postman's motor scooter - he has 5 villages to look after, so delivery is sometimes sporadic). The magazine updates several stories that I have covered, sometimes in more elegant and polished prose than mine, but not always.
For instance, the Blair/Clinton double-act in Blackpool, which I covered here.
Then, TIME has discovered the Ketchup girls (they must have been reading my weblog), but their review is a little jaundiced. Never mind that the words are gibberish, Mr Chu, what about the rhythm and exciting summer ambience that I raved about? They are still dancing on the tables at Rory's bar, and last night I sat behind two 70 year-olds in another bar who started twitching and jiving in their seats when the video came on. It's catching. So what if it's a one-hit wonder - so was The Macarena. Let's just enjoy it while it's here, and remember it always as the song that defined the summer of '02.
CNN has more on this story.
Jeff Chu also confirms he lacks a sense of humour in his ultra-serious coverage of The World's Funniest Joke, which I came across on Daypop Top 40.
Finally, I got it all wrong about Paula Radcliffe in this post, and I owe her an apology: I should have remembered that: Radcliffe is one of the sport's leading antidrug campaigners, and runs with a red ribbon on her vest to show her opposition to drug abuse, and that she has publicly protested about other drug cheats in athletics.
Sorry, Paula, and well-run in Chicago. Hope you're enjoying a nice break from serious running now. Have a few good meals - looks like you need fill out a bit.
