The Roblog!
A forum for distributing news, insights and musings about our life in Greece, an exile's view of South Africa, other topics of interest, and for exploring this new medium and my own creativity. Maybe make some new friends and/or enemies? Let's see.

I'm Back! (I think)

One day short of 3 months ago, I suffered a hard disk crash on my trusty Thinkpad computer, and this weblog has been offline since then.  I thought I had backup, but, it turns out, not good enough.  Of course, that was right in the middle of our busiest period, and I was unable to spend a lot of time to get everything working again.  After about a week, I was able to download some clever recovery tools and retrieve most of my files off the crashed hard disk, and get the core applications installed on a spare Thinkpad (good thing I had taken advantage of a special offer I saw in the window of a local elctronics store - a genuine IBM/Lenovo Thikpad R50e for 600 Euros).  Since then I have acquired a new 60GB hard drive, and a few other bits and pieces, and bit by bit getting everything back and running.  I made one abortive attempt to get Radio Userland back up, but it kept crashing, so I backed off until today, when I apparently I did it successfully - it has not crashed yet!

I am moritified to notice below that my last posting was on June 4.  That is miserable.  I promise that now I seem to have got it up and running again, and that our season is almost over (10 days ago), but it is a school break in the UK, so it will be a busy 10 days), that I will revert to the original purpose of this blog, which was to do more writing, and record my impressions about various aspects of our lives.  Coming soon!
