LITIGATION: Babych v. Philadelphia Flyers

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Associated Press reports a former Philadelphia Flyers' defenseman testified Tuesday that he was pressured to play in a 1998 playoff series while injured, aggravating a broken foot that prematurely ended his 18-year NHL career.  Dave Babych is suing Comcast-Spectacor, owner of the Flyers, and team physician Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi, claiming his injury was mistreated and he was misled about its severity in the interest of keeping him in the lineup.

Lawyers for Comcast-Spectacor and Bartolozzi say the 41-year-old Babych received sound medical advice and attributed his deterioration as a player to age and other injuries. The lawyers noted that he played a second season with the Flyers and one more season with Los Angeles Kings.
