Gov. Olene S. Walker on Tuesday announced she has declared Friday, June 11, 2004 a statewide day of mourning for former President Ronald Reagan, who died Saturday.
While state offices will remain open, Walker is encouraging Utahns to mark Friday as their day to remember America's 40th president. Utah’s day of mourning will coincide with the national day of mourning as well as Mr. Reagan's state funeral, which will be held in Washington, D.C. Walker confirmed today that she has been invited to and will attend those services.
"I am honored to represent the State of Utah during the services and encourage Utahns to reflect Friday on the contributions of a great American president," Walker said.
All flags at state facilities will remain lowered to half staff for the 30-day period as requested by President George W. Bush.
