Gov. Olene S. Walker will officially launch the state’s most comprehensive career-related Web site on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 10:30 a.m., at the South City Campus of Salt Lake Community College, 1575 S. State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah.
This new interactive tool, Careers.utah.gov, is the latest edition to Utah’s nation-leading Internet e-government services.
"Individuals can become overwhelmed planning for the future," said Walker. "Whether they’re investigating careers, exploring education and training, or looking for a job, this portal has the tools and information to help them make informed decisions."
The portal was developed by the Workforce and Education Development Alliance, a partnership comprised of the Department of Workforce Services, Utah State Office of Education, Utah System of Higher Education, Utah State Office of Rehabilitation and Utah Interactive.
Careers.utah.gov is a comprehensive school-to-retirement career exploration and planning solution. The information will assist students in selecting the most appropriate courses to prepare for work, technical training and/or college, ensuring a more educated and qualified workforce for Utah businesses. It will also assist post-secondary students who enter the workforce after graduation as they need current useful information on occupational choices that match employer needs. Laid-off workers can benefit as they may need similar labor market intelligence to provide them with information on possible re-training to prepare them to re-enter the labor market.
